I think this thread should be stinkyed but thats just mean, anyways this thread will have the latest news on whats going on with Power Rangers, most of you probably know but in case you dont.

This just came from Linear Rangers site:
July 18th,2009

Well some VERY interesting news has developed this week. Nothing has changed in the fact that RPM will be the last new live action Power Rangers season. However, as I have changed the title to reflect, what we've learned now is that some old friends just may be returning.

Allow me to explain, while attending a convention, Tyler of the Power Rangers Podcast Rangercast, got to speak with Tony Oliver (Former Power Rangers writer, story editor, supervising producer & main man who helped develop the series). So Tyler first posted on his Twitter Page the following statement:

"Ranger fans! Tony Oliver heard thru the grapevine that Disney plans to air the first 3 seasons of MMPR unedited and cleaned up"

Then Tyler posted on Rangerboard to help explain a bit more:

"In his panel, in response to a PR question, Tony let slip that he got a call from a friend who does video work who was all like "You'll never guess what's on my desk." According to Tony, they're cleaning up (remastering, reformatting, digitizing, etc.) the video and plan to air it unedited. He doesn't know what channel."

Before anyone asks, both Tyler & Tony Oliver are VERY reliable sources when it comes to Power Rangers News & Information. There is no way they would mislead the Power Rangers Fandom.

So, what does this mean? Simple, it seems that to fill the space left empty by not having a NEW Power Rangers Season, Disney will fill that void with the first three seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. As stated above, we do not yet know what network the shows would air on. But this will give a whole new generation & child audience a chance to see just how Power Rangers all began.

Another factor to consider is Bandai America's Power Rangers Toys. This could very likely mean a return of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers toys. They likely would not be exactly the same as those originally released, but newly redesigned instead.

This is all very exciting news, and I will do my best to stay on top of it and post any new develops as they come.

That is Word for Word from Linear Rangers Site, I didnt write it, its all his

why you guess lol?

I'd rather them leave MMPR alone and give us something new instead of sprinkling some Disney magic all over Jason, Tommy, and the rest of the bunch.

Maybe they are doing this as to see what Sentai series will air once the 3 MMPR seasons end their run, perhaps they dont wanna adapt shinkenger and wait for it, launching a new PR season after that

It looks good on paper

Question
07-18-2009, 07:29 PM
I'd love it if they aired the first few seasons as if they were new (one, maybe two seasons a year, then go into reruns), and then maybe segue into making more PR in maybe half a decade. More PR related to the Zordon era.

Ya i was thinking maybe there going to save there money and than create another season and have a bigger budget or something

this is amazing news, not only because if they do it, we will get to watch them as if they were new again, plus besides the toys this could mean dvd's released of the seasons.

Awesome.

I wonder if they are remastering does this mean they'll change the Morph to be like Adams in once a ranger? Also does digitizing possibly mean making it HD and if so MMPR Bluray?

Digifiend

Not likely, as the actors won't look the same to film the scenes (hair, maybe even a few wrinkles, David Yost is 40 now) - and in Trini's case, the actress Thuy Trang is dead, so she obviously can't film a new morph. Maybe make it like the season 3 morph though? They would only need to add the Ranger helmet form up.

Does this mean we all get a chance to snag up horrible Power Morphers with sticker coins instead of actual coins?

Question
07-18-2009, 08:46 PM
Or decent versions of Tommy's coins that don't cost an arm and a leg on ebay.

Original Megazord with the correct designs on the shoulders? (I refer to the M symbol on the Mastodon).

Oh, and Ninja and Shogun Megazords with the correct colouring and design (especially the chestplate on ShogunMegazord) and no Dragonzord chestplate on the season 3 Ultrazords.

I'm the morphers and coins if released as toys would be cheaply made and the coins scattered with the toys like RPM and their "Engine Cells".

True but with today's technology they could take the actors face off a random MMPR scene and use that for morphing sequence e.g this guy did it on youtube YouTube - Revamped MMPR Morphing Sequence YouTube - Revamped MMPR Morphing Sequence Version 2

and while it may not be perfect it does however show it can be done and with disney's technology it'd look right.

They Could, but we will just have to wait and find out! It would be pretty cool, but many ppl may not like it cause your changing what was originally done

We've all heard before that the current season is the last season but they come back with a new one. I would like to think because of the demand from the fans. Someone once said that Disney people watch the boards. So to me it makes sense for them to continue as there is a demand. If the Power Rangers go, so does a big chunk of Disney's viewing audience, and the buying public that is loyal to the Power Rangers series. That's looking on the bright side.

Even if they did re-broadcast the first three seasons, they would still be edited to allow time enough for commercials. It would be nice if they released the series in their entirety on DVD. That's a pipe dream which yes I know many have been hoping for a long time.

Thats such an excellent point! Ya i would finally want the seasons on dvd, and i think Disneys viewing audience will drop, and i think that they will loose a lot more money and realize it was a huge mistake that they decieded to drop Power Rangers. If they do see the boards, i dont get why they dont realize we do want more season lol

Well I'm not sure about all this. I'm just going to wait and see if they go ahead and adapt Shinkenger or if they'll really remaster MMPR and broadcast it unedited. Either outcome would be good as far as I'm concerned, but what I really want is for them to begin remastering Power Rangers in its entirety and for them to release it on Blu-Ray. I don't actually have a Blu-Ray player yet, but I'd still buy Power Rangers on Blu-Ray because I'd want to have it available to watch in the best quality possible when I finally did get my hands on a Blu-Ray player. Anyway, I think it would kick ass if Bandai America released brand new MMPR toys, though I'm not sure if I'd get to buy them or not. Bandai America tends to release the kickback toys in limited quantities and then all the other PR fans in my area grab up most of them before I'm even aware that they're available. I never even found the first kickback Green Ranger toy, or the kickback White Ranger toy, or the kickback Gold Ranger toy. I saw one kickback Lord Zedd toy while I was at K-Mart with only enough money to get somebody a gift, and then it was gone the next time I was there and actually had money to buy it. I saw one of the second kickback Green Ranger toys in Toys "R" Us when I was broke and never saw it again. I don't really mind when a PR fan buys just one kickback toy, but they seldom ever do. Usually they buy two of every kickback toy so that they can play with one and sell the other online at a higher price to a desperate fellow PR fan that couldn't find one in stores. It's just greedy for PR fans to do that and it pisses me off.

I think PR is dead after RPM...for now. I think that within the near future either: A) Disney will swallow it's pride and sell PR to someone else (Go Adness!!) or B) They will restart production with the current season of Sentai.

ya thats what i think, i bet it will come back, just after a while, maybe everyone just needs a break, and maybe we will get a bigger budget, more american footage, and so on, think after reruns, everything will pick up again, and this way we would be super excited to see another season, and maybe it will be longer too.

that would be cool if addness does it lol, i mean kamen rider is doing great, i am liking it!

Thought it would be awsome Disney never sells its properties. They bought the adaption rights to all senti prior to zyuranger and aren't going to use them. They wouldn't have a problem sitting it out for a couple years.

This could be agood thing if ya think about it.If they sit out shinkenger and next years sentai they can build up money for a better budget and have more time to adapt them.It wouldn't be so bad to be two years behind the current sentai.

More time=better production and writing.

Okay you guys said that Disney owns the adaptation rights to the previous season prior to Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger right? Why don't they just do what Saban did with Zyuranger with some of those season's by just giving the Japanese footage the action scenes

Do you know how much he's missing out on now? Especially that PR is ending? I assume it's going to make a tremendous comeback someday and if Disney still owns it, it's going rake in a lot of cash.

Though unconfirmed, I would've love to see Shinkenger adapted for the US. The digitally remastered, revamped, etc... three seasons of MMPR should be left for DVD circulation just like seasons of the original Star Trek (for example, not comparing).

I hate to be a nay-sayer, but since Disney has succeeded in ruining the concept of Power Rangers (save for Mystic Force) I think I'll pass on this unconfirmed news. Sorry.

I thought Disney didn't have the rights to pre-Zyuranger footage par their agreement with Saban Entertainment.Saban (and therefore Disney now) definitely had the rights to Jetman, as they originally intended to use it as MMPR - until Haim saw the Zyuranger footage, and changed his mind. Previous Sentais though, I doubt, especially as some Dynaman episodes were dubbed in the 80s as a spoof.

An update from Linear Ranger:

August 1, 2009:

Another new development has occurred. A few Power Rangers fans with reliable sources, are now saying that their sources have told them, that Disney may be looking into outsourcing Power Rangers. This means that while Disney would maintain ownership of the show, they may want to find a production company to pay to produce future new seasons of the show.

To make it a bit easier to understand, allow me to explain it like this. Say Power Rangers is a bowling ball. Disney owns that bowling ball, but does not want to bowl with it because it would cost them too much. However, they will allow someone else to bowl with their bowling ball, but what ever money the person may make with the "Power Rangers" bowling ball, a large percentage of that money would have to be paid to Disney for using their bowling ball.

I hope that helps to explain. So for now, things just continue to get more interesting and somewhat confusing. Stay tuned, as I'll continue to keep you up to date on the latest developments.

Don't know if the rumor is true or not, but I'd like to see the production handed over to a Canadian production company. Canada gave us "Are You Afraid of the Dark?", an excellent show and there are a lot of good actors that have come out of Canada.
